Thus, when the option to save someone else is selected, Chara’s memory of their first meeting with Asriel came to mind. Why do the flashbacks appear when “their name” is called out? Unlike the lost souls of their friends, Frisk didn’t share any memories with Asriel. With each soul, Frisk needed to talk about their shared memories to save them. That’s why Asriel, who was previously a soulless flower, was now someone capable of being saved. Furthermore, the “something else” that “began resonating within the SOUL” is likely Asriel’s essence or being becoming stronger from having a soul again. The build up to save him with the use of the words “their name” is likely for suspense. He is keeping Frisk and everyone from their happy ending. But the text clearly states that there is still “one last person” to be saved. Some people believe that “their name” refers to Chara’s. Something else began resonating within the SOUL, stronger and stronger. Strangely, as your friends remembered you… However, there are reasons as to why this is not the case. Many have speculated that Chara is saved during Asriel’s fight. ![]() So we will review if this is the case within the duration of Undertale. (Also, just a friendly reminder, we will be using “they” to refer to Chara as this is what is used in canon.) ![]() However, in order to find peace and be redeemed, Chara must be saved. It’s hard to say what happens at the end of the true pacifist route because we simply aren’t told what happens to Chara.
